Labidochromis sp. 'hongi' is known only from the eastern coast of Lake Malawi, between Liuli and Undu Reef, and at Hongi, Lundo and Mbamba Bay Islands, where it inhabits the sediment-rich rocky habitat. This is a member of the Mbuna group of cichlids, but as yet remains undescribed.  This species can be kept successfully alongside other outgoing Mbuna, although it is best to avoid fish with a similar colour pattern.
